Spring Has Sprung! Let’s Celebrate with a Photo Contest!

By Julia Williams

In my neck of the woods, spring can be a tad fickle. In other words, even though the calendar says it’s officially springtime, the weather may or may not follow suit. In fact, sometimes winter drags on here for what seems like forever.

Thankfully, this year looks pretty good so far (knock on wood) and I am celebrating the arrival of warm(er) weather. CANIDAE is celebrating the season too, with a spring-themed photo contest for all of their customers and fans!

How to Enter

Just grab your camera and be ready to capture your cat or dog doing whatever you think best embodies the spring season. Whether that’s wearing bunny ears, sniffing daffodils, visiting the Easter Bunny, or just exuberantly enjoying the nice spring weather…snap away!

Then share your best spring-themed photo of your cat or dog on the CANIDAE Facebook photo contest page, and you might win 6 months of free CANIDAE natural pet food!

Our Holiday Pet Photo Contest Winners!

By Julia Williams

I had so much fun looking at all of the wonderful pics submitted for CANIDAE’s last photo contest on Facebook. It’s always hard to choose my favorites because they’re all just so darn cute. Seriously, how could I possibly choose just one dog photo and one cat photo for my vote? They’re all winners in my eyes because the subject – a beloved pet – is near and dear to my heart. But they can’t all be awarded the awesome CANIDAE food prizes, unfortunately. I wish they could, because it’s such great pet food (my three kitties have eaten it for 10 years!).

One winning photo was chosen by the most online votes, but that still left two other winners for our panel of pet lovers to choose. After much deliberation, I finally picked my faves and my votes were tallied with the others…and here are all three winners!

Santa’s Little Helper: BC Davidson’s adorable little dog, Ruby, was the winner for the Most Online Votes category, with 153 votes. BC said “Ruby was rescued from the Animal Shelter and has been the most patient and wonderful dog. Here she is standing up ready to be Santa’s helper.”

A Cat with Mad Climbing Skills: The “Most Festive Cat” photo chosen by our panel of pet lovers was taken by Christa Strub, who wrote this about her cat, “This is a little foster who is staying to live with us. She has been up the tree near to the top multiple times a day.” Yay for a foster kitty finding her forever home! And with such impressive tree-scaling skills already, just wait until next year.

The Big Wrinkly Elf: The “Most Festive Dog” photo chosen by our panel of pet lovers was Kathryn Dunlap’s elf, errrrr…dog, Rufio. Kathryn wrote, “Everyone loves a big wrinkly Elf!” We agreed!

The “My Talking Pet” App Will Have You in Stitches!

My Talking PetBy Julia Williams

Everyone who knows me is well aware that I am a kid at heart. My philosophy is that you’re never too old to play. There’s a time and a place for adult stuff, of course, but I firmly believe that taking time to play keeps us young in our bodies and our minds. Nurturing your inner child is every bit as important as taking care of the adult you.

So it will come as no surprise that I discovered an app called My Talking Pet, and found it utterly hilarious. Yes, it is *very* silly, but so entertaining for your inner child as well as any actual human children you might want to share it with.

The My Talking Pet app is so easy to use, and unless you are one of those humans with no sense of humor, it will make you laugh… a lot. My inner child (I call her Baby Quirky) had more fun with this app than she’s had in a good long while. And trust me when I say, this kid knows how to play!

I downloaded the app on my ipad, but it will also work on your iphone, and there is an Android version now, too. Essentially, you take a photo of your pet, then record anything you want your pet to say. You can change the pitch from low (for doggies) to high (for kitties) or somewhere in between depending on what you fancy their voice to be like. When you’ve finished making your video, you can email it to a friend, save it on your ipad or phone, and even post it on Facebook or your blog (see my videos below!).

All you have to do is visit the CANIDAE contest page on Facebook, enter the link to your video on YouTube, and submit your entry!

If you don’t already have your pet’s video on YouTube, visit
their website, drag and drop your video file, and upload. Easy enough!

Next, you’ll need to share the contest with your friends, since one of the prizes goes to the video with the most online votes. The other winner will be chosen by a panel of pet-loving judges from the CANIDAE® team, so even if you don’t get the most online votes, you still have a chance to win!
