I tried to find a good word that rhymed with 2015, but “bean” was the best I could do. See, if you don’t already know, some cats and dogs who blog call their human a bean. I’ve no clue who coined that term, but it’s a thing, so I went with it.
Bad rhymes aside, it’s time once again for us here at the CANIDAE RPO blog to wish a very Happy New Year to those we hold dear. That certainly includes all of you, our readers. Without you, there would be no reason to write a thing!
Whether you’ve just discovered this blog, have been with us since our inception (in early 2009!) or joined us somewhere in between, we appreciate you and are so glad to have you along for the ride.
Each year, we strive to bring you a variety of topics ranging from pet care tips and important pet-related information, to human interest stories and entertaining posts that will make you smile. We’re always open to suggestions, so feel free to drop us an email or a comment if you have a specific topic you’d like to see us cover in 2015.
We know everyone is very busy today with opening gifts, cooking, feasting and spending time with your family, so we won’t keep you. We just wanted to take a moment to say Merry Christmas!
All of us here at the Responsible Pet Ownership Blog and CANIDAE would like to extend our warmest wishes to you and your pets. We hope your holiday is filled with joy, love, laughter and happiness, and that the doggie tails are a-wagging and the kitty motors are purring.
We wanted to share a few festive photos of our adorable pets with you. We hope you enjoy them!
The sponsor of this blog, CANIDAE Natural Pet Foods, selects one reader every three months to receive a free six month supply of their premium quality pet food. The winner is chosen at random from every new reader who subscribed via email during the past quarter. The winner gets to pick any formula of CANIDAE dog food or cat food.
The latest lucky winner is De Cunningham of Florida, who chose to receive the CANIDAE Platinum formula for her Dachshund doggie family. De must really love Dachshunds, because she has five of them! The dogs range from 8 to 13 years of age, and De says that “All are healthy, happy little ones.”
De’s oldest dog, Skye, is a Certified Crisis Response Canine. Have you ever heard of that? I hadn’t, and after learning what is involved, I must say I am very impressed with Skye and De for doing this!
Crisis Response Canine Teams are specially trained in psychological first aid and certified to work in crisis environments. Their job is to help people who are experiencing fear, anxiety and hopelessness in the aftermath of a disaster or crisis.
Bow wow WOW! It’s been four years since CANIDAE began the Responsible Pet Ownership blog, and what a ride it’s been. Let’s pop a cork and have a PAWTY!
I’ve been Editor of the RPO blog for nearly all of that time, and I’ve watched it grow and evolve to become something better than I ever imagined. Blogging has been around for awhile now, but in many ways is still in its infancy, and there’s so much yet to discover.
I can’t wait to see what the next four years has in store for this blog, as well as for all of the other pet blogs and bloggers I’ve come to know and love. Social media is a unique sign of the times; unless you have a fairly new dictionary, you won’t find the terms “blog” and “blogging” in there. And yet, blogs have become a part of daily life for many of us. Whether we read blogs, write blogs or do some of both, it’s hard to imagine them not being there.
CANIDAE began this blog with a few simple but heartfelt goals – to connect with customers, make new friends, share interesting and fun stories, and impart knowledge to help people be the best “pet parents” they can be.
Four years and nearly 2,000 posts later, I’m happy to say these goals have all been met, and so much more. Responsible pet ownership is at the heart of everything this blog stands for and strives to accomplish. It’s the cornerstone of the CANIDAE brand as well as the philosophy of all who work for the company.

The most recent winner is Benny Wong from Pasadena, California. Benny is very familiar with the CANIDAE brand and has chosen to receive free dog food. “We definitely feed our dogs CANIDAE! We use both the All Life Stages and Grain Free pureELEMENTS™ formulas,” said Benny. A longtime dog lover, Benny is also an active member of a Disc Dog club and competes regularly with his crew of canine athletes. “With 5 dogs, we sure can use this free food,” said Benny.
Here’s what Benny told us about himself and his canine family:
“I have been in the disc dog community since 1991. I belong to a disc dog club called Disc Dogs in Southern California. I’ve been president off and on for 4 years, and currently I’m the clinic and competition coordinator for the club.
My first dog Sammy, a poodle-terrier mix, started my addiction on wanting more dogs. He was my wife’s lap dog that I converted into a disc dog. We adopted him in 1990 at 8 weeks and he was so perfect for us. We took him everywhere, and he took our heart at the age of 15 1/2.

The lucky winner from last quarter is Sharla V. of Corvallis, Oregon. Sharla has a beautiful Alaskan Husky named Sadie who will be 11 years old in December. Sharla also has two cats, but has decided that Sadie should be the one to try the CANIDAE food, and has chosen to receive 3 bags of All Life Stages (ALS) and 3 Bags of CANIDAE Beef and Fish.
Some of you may recognize the dog in these photos. That’s because Sadie is often featured on Sharla’s wonderful pet blog called Beaded Tail! I asked Sharla to tell us a little about Sadie, and here is what she said:
“Sadie was rescued by the humane society from a puppy mill in Nebraska when she was just a month old, along with 40 adult dogs and 6 litters of puppies. When my mom heard about these dogs, she went straight to the humane society and put our names on the list of people who wanted to adopt. When the courts finally said the huskies could be adopted, the humane society had raided a Yorkie puppy mill so the huskies were being sent to other shelters to make room. Only two husky puppies stayed behind; one went to a shelter employee and we got Sadie!
