CANIDAE Pet Foods has donated 1,400 pounds of super-premium CANIDAE All Life Stages dog food to help Gentle Giants Rescue in Norco, California continue to save the lives of the giant breed dogs in their care. The donation was arranged by and made possible through our friends at Freekibble.com, a charity based in Bend, Oregon.

Gentle Giants Rescue animalGentle Giants Rescue, now the largest giant breed rescue in the world, was founded 16 years ago by Burt Ward and his wife Tracy to save the lives of primarily large breed dogs. Burt Ward, who portrayed "Robin, the Boy Wonder" in the 1960s television series "Batman," stated, "Animals, who are so innocent and so loving, and all they want to do is love you and be loved. I want to protect them. I want to help them. Our whole life is now charity and giving back."

Over 1000 dogs and puppies are rescued each year by Gentle Giants Rescue including Great Danes, Borzoi, Great Pyrenees, Irish Wolfhounds, Scottish Deerhounds, Saint Bernards, Newfoundlands and others. Some of the dogs are rescued from shelters unable to care for them, while others come from private individuals.

Freekibble.com serves the needs of animal shelters across the United States, helping to ensure that shelter dogs and cats receive the quality food they need. CANIDAE Pet Foods is a founding contributor to Freekibble.com, a website and charity started by 14 year old Mimi Ausland whose website allows anyone to donate 10 pieces of kibble to a needy dog or cat simply by answering the daily trivia question posted on their homepage. "We really appreciate and enjoy working with CANIDAE to help feed all these homeless dogs and cats that need our help... we also love being able to help feed Gentle Giants - they do an awesome job!" says Mimi. Freekibble.com launched in April of 2008 and has thus far been able to donate over 420,000 pounds of premium kibble for hungry dogs and cats in shelters.
