CANIDAE Staff Enter Loews Coronado Resort 5th Annual Surf Dog Competition

Our own Diane Matsuura, her daughter Kristine, and Diane’s one year old Yellow Labrador Retriever Hailey attended the Loews Coronado Resort 5th Annual Surf Dog Competition in Imperial Beach, CA recently. The event drew a huge crowd to the beach to watch 65 dogs from across the country surf the waves while thousands of spectators cheered them on. Beautiful Loews Coronado Bay Resort near San Diego has held this annual fun-filled competition every year since 2006.

The CANIDAE sponsored team of Todd Murnan and his dogs Bella and Grit showed up, entertaining the crowd with an impromptu disc dog demo before the surfing contest started. Todd stayed with our team at the CANIDAE both for the rest of the day, helping us to offer samples and coupons for our all natural, holistic dog foodscat foods, and gourmet treats to the enthusiastic crowd of animal lovers inviting them to discover for themselves and their pets the healthful benefits of our all natural pet foods.

Diane’s dog Hailey, in the pink vest, entered the contest for her first time and did very well. She was handled by Craig Haverstick. Craig went on the win the large dog division with his 8 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Stanley. Congratulations Craig! Diane’s dog Hailey even made the Fox News website coverage of the event!

This popular competition is an extension of Loews Hotels’ Loews Loves Pets program and has become a hugely successful fundraiser for pet-related charities. This year’s event benefitted the San Diego Police Department Canine Unit through the San Diego Police Foundation. We look forward to attending again in 2011.
